Franchise Opportunities in the Home Repair & Organization industry

Industry Overview

Franchise North America offers Home Repair and Organization franchises in all regions of the United States. We only offer those franchises for sale that meet our high internal standards of excellence, integrity, and quality.

Home repair and organization franchises include handyman services, remodeling, kitchen and bath renovation, and household systems repair and maintenance concepts.  There is a variety of investment levels and home-based vs. brick & mortar concepts.

According to a study by the National Association for the Remodeling Industry (NARI), most homeowners will eventually do some sort of remodeling. People typically remodel for two reasons: to update their homes to their taste or the latest trends (79%) or to address the changing needs of their family (62%). Other reasons include increasing a homes market value (47%) and addressing the needs of a home business or ones professional work (10%).

The most common remodeling jobs overall are kitchens, new additions and roofs, followed by bathrooms, siding, basements and decks.

Another important trend driving home improvement is the aging baby boomers.  They are making changes to their homes to accommodate their changing lifestyle and choosing not to or are now unable to perform the work themselves.

Facts about Home Repair & Organization franchises

  • The vast majority (72%) of remodeling projects cost less than $10,000; 49% of those were less than $5,000. Only 9% cost more than $30,000
  • The most common job over $30,000 was a new addition (36%), followed by kitchen work (21%).
  • Some states will require licensing before you can begin to operate your business
  • A primary source of value from the franchisor must be their marketing capabilities to help acquire customers
  • Franchisors provide all the technical training needed to operate

Lifestyle Considerations

  • As most concepts are targeted toward residential projects, work days will likely be 6 or 7 days per week
  • No industry experience is typically required; owners focus on networking and selling your business as well as maintaining customer service
  • Some concepts will be looking for management skills and the ability to recruit and motivate employees
  • Owners with sales ability and people oriented are typically more successful
  • Many concepts are home-based with no inventory and little overhead costs; as their business and number of employee grow, they may need to acquire commercial office or warehouse space
  • Owners should be comfortable with networking with strategic partners like realtors, restoration contractors, homebuilders, real estate agents, general contractors, insurance companies, interior designers and property managers
